HOW TO BECOME A STRIPPER, MAKE MONEY AND EMPOWER YOURSELF

Stripping is a career that receives some flak, but it can be empowering for women to own their sexuality, not to mention the financial rewards. Not everyone can stomach this career, so you should definitely know how to become a stripper and whether you have what it takes to make it.

WHAT IT REQUIRES TO BECOME A STRIPPER

All women are beautiful in their own ways, but not everyone has what it takes to become a stripper. Read on to find out what we mean about those requirements.

  • An attractive body: Strippers are literally objects of desire, so they need curves in all the right places and a generally svelte figure. You’ll need to eat right and exercise, especially if that sort of body doesn’t come easily to you, just like you would if you were a model. And some women who want to be strippers will opt for modifications such as breast or butt implants for a more dramatic feminine body.
  • Hair and makeup skills: If you don’t like doing your hair or experimenting with the art of makeup, then becoming a stripper probably isn’t for you. Careful thought goes into a stripper’s appearance, including clothing (which we’ll get to in a few moments). Many strippers favor a bold makeup look with thick eyeliner and plenty of glitter, but you can play around with that look as long as you look good.
  • The right wardrobe: A stripper’s closet is full of lingerie, scanty clothing, high heels and maybe even wigs! If you don’t think this comes at a price, think again. The right work wardrobe is as important on the stage as it is in the office.
  • Confidence: It takes a lot of confidence to get up on a stage, then dance around and take your clothing off in front of an audience. It can be hard enough to get undressed for a single sexual partner (Related: How to Get Rid of Sexual Anxiety). The good news is, stripping actually helps give some women confidence!
  • A thick skin: Not everyone will like you. You may be judged by your own clients, people who know you’re a stripper and even other women who feel intimidated by you. Sensitive women might want to look into a different profession than stripping.
  • The ability to walk (and dance) in heels: Walking in heels take practice and balance because of the way the shoes alter your posture. Dancing in them is even harder! You’ve got to be sure that you won’t trip and fall on your face or, at the very least, you can work it into your set somehow.
  • Rhythm: Once you’ve got the walking down, you’ve got to dance. You certainly don’t need to be a professional dancer to become a stripper, but you’ll need to have some skills so you won’t look like a fish out of water on the stage. A dance class might help you out in this department, and you’ll be well on your way if you have ever given your man a lap dance. More on that here.
  • Strength: While you might not recognize it, most strippers have a lot of arm strength. This is because they’re constantly lifting or pulling themselves up on the poles, spinning around and doing other acrobatics. Stripping is hard work! Take a pole dancing class if you want to try it out (it’s one of 14 ways to be a bad girl, too!).

Many of these skills are those you can learn before or while becoming a stripper (learn how to strip in this post), but some people just don’t have the body, the sense of style, the confidence or the ability to walk in heels that are required to strip.

HOW TO BECOME A STRIPPER

If you’re positive that this is the life for you, then you’ll want to know how to become a stripper. It may be easier than you think!

1. LOOK FOR HIRING CLUBS

Check out local clubs and the places they advertise to see if they’re hiring. You can simply look up the phone number and give them a call to see. When they’re hiring, you may qualify for an interview, and you should expect them to verify that you pass all the requirements listed above.

2. BEWARE OF SCAMS

Many people are attracted to stripping because it can be lucrative. However, this is one reason why people may try to scam a woman. Another reason? They want to take advantage of women.

So you’ll want to be careful when providing information and meeting interviewers. No one needs to interview you in their car! And a legitimate job requires you to provide proof of ID and fill out paperwork.

3. RESEARCH CLUBS

The quality of strip clubs varies widely. Some are reputable and upscale. Others are more sleazy. As you can guess, you’d be more likely to make less money, deal with dicey customers and face potential abuse from employers at those clubs of ill repute.

So do your research beforehand. A club may be hiring, but it may not be the type of place you’d like to work.

4. RESEARCH CLIENTS

Once you’ve decided on a club, learn a bit about the people who patronize those establishments. Do they want a powerful woman or a vulnerable schoolgirl type? Of course, you can don many personas when you’re a stripper, but your success may vary if you don’t fit the niche.

5. KNOW IF YOU’LL NEED A LICENSE

Some cities or states may actually have laws requiring a stripper to obtain a license. Generally, the club you’re working at can tell you whether you need a license and how to get one. Some will even assist in filling out the paperwork,

6. GO SHOPPING

Allow yourself to have a little fun with this one. When stripping is imminent, you’ll need to make sure you can look the part, and this includes clothing, shoes and accessories. Your shopping trip can include any of the following:

  • High-heeled shoes and boots
  • Bra and panty sets
  • Lingerie (Read: 10 Steps to Picking the perfect Lingerie)
  • Mini-dresses
  • Mini-skirts
  • Button-down shirts
  • A variety of bikinis and thong panties
  • Fishnets
  • Knee-high socks
  • Hats, scarves, feather boas, gloves and ties
  • Nipple pasties
  • Costumes

To start, come up with a few pieces that you can mix and match as part of different outfits. Remember, stripping is literally the art of taking your clothes off smoothly, so you need to be able to remove layers in a sexy way, but you don’t want to get naked right away. You have to layer pieces of your outfit in a creative way.

A sample costume might include a button-down shirt, briefs, tie and hat. You’ll remove the accessories, then the shirt to reveal a tank top underneath. Beneath the tank top is a bra, and the panties actually reveal a tiny G-string. Depending on the club, you may wind up completely naked or just topless.

Remember, this will all happen during the duration of a song or two, so you have to be able to strip and dance promptly.

7. PICK A STAGE NAME

Have you ever wondered why so many strippers seemed to be named Candy, Desiree or Tiffany? Those aren’t their real names, of course. Those are just stage names.

A stage name serves a variety of purposes. For starters, it helps you craft that persona, which may be different from who you are the rest of the time. It also prevents clients from gaining too much information about you; it exists for your privacy.

Your stage name could be similar to your real name, a name you always liked, a pun or something that people traditionally associate with strippers. It’s up to you!

CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT STRIPPING

Stripping isn’t for everyone, and now that you’ve learned how to become a stripper and why you might want to, we have some words of caution. Here are a few reasons why you might not like stripping.

1. IT SHOWS YOU SOCIETY’S UNDERBELLY

Strip clubs can be seedy. They attract some sleazy people, and those who don’t always operate well in society. They may even play host to drug use and deals.

If you can’t deal with being in that sort of atmosphere day in and day out, then you should reconsider stripping.

2. YOU’LL FEEL OBJECTIFIED

Duh! Of course, you will. That’s why men are paying to see you undress. For some women, this can be empowering in a way because they control when the clothes come off, and men aren’t allowed to touch them.

But you can also start to feel a bit like you are nothing more than your body, even if you’re a smart and interesting woman.

3. OTHERS MAY JUDGE YOU

The world of stripping is an interesting thing. Some people never tell their friends and family because of the discrimination they’ll face. In some instances, stripping could even interfere with another job, custody of kids or anything that depends on you having a squeaky-clean reputation because many people look down on strippers.

You might find out that some people are anti-stripping only after you reveal your new job. Other women can be especially judgmental, and this often stems from a place of jealousy. They may call you a slut, but what does that mean anyway? Discover what a slut is.

Plus, the very same men who pay you to take off your clothes and give them a lap dance may judge you. It’s a double-edged sword.

4. YOUR MAN MAY BE JEALOUS

Many boyfriends and husbands don’t like when their women bare all for the world to see. It’s understandable. You’d probably feel something similar if your man were stripping for women.

Thus, stripping can be a source of strife with your man. However, you can get through this if you create boundaries at work and with clients. You can work through jealousy. Read more here.

A relationship that is already on rocky foundation may not survive your stripping career, however.

5. CLIENTS MAY BECOME OBSESSIVE

In some cases, a customer may want more than you’re willing to give, including a romantic or sexual relationship. This can turn into stalking, sexual assault and even physical violence, especially if those clients have issues with drinking.

Strippers often help protect each other by sticking together, and your club should have a bouncer to help ensure your safety, too. But there are real risks associated with stripping that you need to be aware of.

6. YOU MAY BE TEMPTED TO DRINK – OR WORSE

Most strip clubs are bars, and there will be many drunken customers. But club staff and strippers often drink too heavily as well. Worse than that, drug use is common in some strip clubs. It’s difficult to resist that temptation when you’re surrounded by it all the time.

You may have already beat addiction, so you know if you’re susceptible to drugs or alcohol. If so, you may want to rethink stripping at all.
